Eilis O’Brien

After completing her undergraduate degree in Psychology, Eilis worked as an ABA tutor / SNA with children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder and complex needs for two years. In this setting she learned about behavioural interventions and supported language systems such as PECs, Lamh and Sign. From here she was accepted into the MSc Speech and Language Therapy Course in the University of Limerick.

During her time in the University of Limerick, Eilis completed various modules in speech and language therapy which provided a solid academic foundation. It was during this time that Eilis completed a thesis which focused on identifying different taste stimuli which encourage a swallow response. Recently, this research was accepted for presentation at the Barcelona Dysphagia Conference 10/2015.

As a speech and language therapy student, Eilis gained clinical experience in a range of different settings. On completion of her course, Eilis was approved by the Clinical Therapies Department in UL as dysphagia trained as an entry level clinician.
