This presentation will provide an introduction to The SCERTS Model, a comprehensive evidence-based framework for prioritizing goals and implementing practices that focus on the core challenges in ASD: Social Communication, Emotional Regulation, and providing Transactional Supports for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), and related social-communicative disabilities and their families.

The SCERTS model is a flexible and individualized approach that is 1) grounded within a developmental framework, 2) focused on learning functional skills in every day activities, 3) based on the unique learning style of persons with ASD, and 4) team-based, allowing for interdisciplinary practice and collaboration with family members. It is not an exclusive approach, in that it provides a framework in which practices from other approaches may be integrated. The SCERTS Model is now being implemented in more than 12 countries in programs ranging from Early Intervention, school-age services and adult services. The manuals have been translated into Japanese and Korean, with additional translations in process.

In this workshop, assessment and intervention issues will be addressed for children with a wide range of developmental abilities and ages, including preverbal and verbal individuals, from preschool through elementary, middle, high school ages and adult services. Particular emphasis will be given to the core challenges faced by students with ASD and related abilities by emphasizing the interface between social, emotional and communication issues from a clinical and educational perspective.

Frequently Asked Questions

Courses that have a pre-requirement (e.g. Open to SLTs or OTs only), will only allow applicants to register, and will then go to our administration system to be approved.  We will then check that the applicant has met the prerequisites and approve their booking.

Open courses will allow applicants to register, and get a confirmed booking automatically.

We are happy to work with any organisation’s administrative staff and systems to make it as easy as possible for someone to attend a course.

Please give it PLENTY OF TIME before the cut off for Early Bird or Regular Rates. Depending on how your organisation is funded, there may be multiple levels of administrative approval required even after your own supervisor agrees to it.  Some tips from our experience, to make it run smoothly:

  1. If you are interested, check with your supervisor ASAP. Send them this webpage.
  2. If you will be travelling, check if your organisation can cover accommodation expenses as ex-cost. If not, we are able to quote you directly a full price for the course, plus B&B in the venue hotel on a single invoice. We will discuss and agree with you what you need and will then arrange the best price with the hotel using our discount, which will be passed onto you.
  3. If you need a pro-forma invoice in order to get confirmation from your service of the final amount, we can arrange that in advance.

As a rule of thumb, please allow about 5-6 weeks for this entire process to take place with any given service.

If you are wanting us to bill your employer directly, we are happy to do so.

It is a similar process to above (when you want to get reimbursed), but the advantage of course is that you are not needing to pay up front from your own pocket. The only risk in this case is that if your employer takes too long processing, your place may be lost by the time they clear funds.

In such a case, you may not be located near the training venue.

Yes you can.  Your booking needs to be completely paid by the cut off for your fee. So Early Bird fees need to be settled in full by the close of the Early Bird date, etc.

Paypal is the most convenient way, however it does incur the PayPal fee of 6.5% on each transaction.  You can also pay by direct debit, which does not incur this. Please contact jmorris@catts.ie if you want to pay in installments once you booked.

Paypal is the most convenient way to pay, however it does incur the PayPal fee of 6.5% on each transaction.

PayPal charges fees on all payments. If you don’t see it as extra, it means it is already built into the price so anyone paying differently is effectively paying 6.5% more than they need to!

We choose to add it, and give people the alternatives of Online SEPA payment, Cheque, Credit Card over phone etc., rather than build the 6.5% into the price for ALL registrants.

We don’t believe this is fair on attendees, and we try to keep the course cost as low as possible.

We based our fees on the price of the course minus the costs of setup.

Where a speaker is coming from another country we price it as much as possible on parity with the rate charged in their home audience.

For European or International Speakers, the rates are always below what it would take an individual to travel to see them on their own.

Open Courses, yes, of course.

If the speaker has requested a closed audience, we may need to check with them on a case by case basis, depending on your year of study, and the demand from practicing professionals to access the course.

All courses are targeted towards a specific audience. If it is open to parents or carers, it will be advertised as such.  Courses that have a pre-requirement will only allow applicants to register, and will then go to our administration system to be approved.
